Social differences become inequalities even in the determinants of health and disease, and, finally, in the different chances of illness and death. OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate the impact of social inequalities on the health of the individual. To report the main determinants of health conditions. METHODS: A literature review was performed in the SCIELO databases, published in the year 2017. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: this study shows how social inequalities interfere in the health and quality of life of individuals. In this way, it results in a problem that affects poor and rich countries, having a direct relation with the historical and structural roots of each country. In this context, the health conditions of a population are related to several factors, including urbanization and migration, which reflect the environmental and social conditions - inadequate housing conditions, inadequate basic sanitation or unhealthy work. Thus, living individuals from more precarious places present fragile health conditions when compared to individuals from more favored places - proving social inequality in the health of the population. Thus, in order to positively affect the health conditions of a population, it is necessary first to take into account the conceptual, political and moral divergences of each country. In addition, a consolidation of the health system based on biomedical knowledge and resulting (and appropriate) techniques for a particular health sector, together with the formulation of policies that include the sectors of work, housing, public safety, transportation and education, would be the measures ideals. Since health encompasses social well-being as a whole. CONCLUSION: It is notorious that over the years, there was a growth of the study on social inequalities in health, at the academic and scientific level. However, the use of this knowledge for the implementation of actions in public policies is still very restricted and limited. Therefore, it is understood that the impact of social inequalities in health, regardless of degree and locality, is undeniable, since it is a matter of global impact. The most elaborate solution recently aims to improve the forms of global governance, through the historical knowledge of the constitution of the nations as well as through the information of the positioning of each country in the global productive circuits.

Keywords: Inequality.
